Top 10 Halo OSTs

Cortana

Halo. The franchise that defined a generation, and the franchise that can die if 343 industries do not make Halo 6 great, like it used to be once upon a time. Halo Wars 2, the latest entry, was well- good, but a failure from sales perspective. We at The Draxanderis Scripture have always loved the series, our favorite being Halo 2, Halo: Combat Evolved and Halo 3: ODST. We liked Halo 5’s story, but the gameplay could not keep up with it.
Now its 2018, and with Halo 6 making its reveal anytime soon, we thought it would a perfect time to revisit the good old OSTs made by legendary composer Martin O’ Donnell (Is he a god?), and also the newer ones, because let’s face it, Halo 5 and 4 have some pretty good OSTs with them.

10. Halo 5: The Trials
Part of the last major entry in the series, this score lives up a thousand times better than the game itself. It is a perfect score for the trials of Master Chief, every obstacle, every enemy, you can feel it. In fact, one of us at The Scripture even said it should be at the number 1 spot!

9. Halo 4: Awakening

343i had a great job, a great responsibility, and they almost nailed it. Well in the music department at least. Awakening really goes well as Halo 4’s main theme, as it is not only Master Chief’s Awakening, but also of the franchise itself, and perils it faces are fleshed out in the score perfectly. You will feel in the Chief’s shoes with this one; you’ll be a part of his journey.

8. Halo 2 Anniversary: Mjolnir Mix

What’s better than Rock n Roll? Halo 2. No Seriously. The remastered soundtrack of Halo 2 makes us feel like a child again. It also a super soldier badass, unafraid to take on the Covenant, make them regret coming to Earth. The Rock Guitar solos really add to the already amazing charm. Arm that with nostalgia, and you’ll get this amazing bad boy that’s hotter than all the plasma grenades. At the end however, it is calm, reminding us to not forget our roots.

7. Halo 4: To Galaxy
This song has a great deal of mystery to it, as if its hiding something from us, making our feet tremble as we discover each piece of the lost Forerunner Legacy. You feel like a protector, probably what the Didact felt like before the Halos were fired. The pacing here is great, and has a sense of grandeur and amazement.

6. Halo 3: ODST: Deference for Darkness
Listening to this, if you aren’t a Halo fan, you won’t ever think this is an OST from a Video Game DLC. So, masterfully has this been crafted, it screams at you about loss, yet in a very quiet way. There is even a hint of romance here, something you would it normally expect from a Halo OST. Some fans even claim it to be the best Halo OST of all time!

5. Halo 3: One Final Effort
“One Final effort is all that remains”
~Lord Hood.
This was quite easily in our list at number 2 spot. The track lays the foundation for urgency and desperation in a subtle way then goes on to progress on that. The piano feels alive, and is probably the best OST in all of Halo 3.

4. Halo 4: Revival (Didact’s Theme)
So what happens when the leader of the Forerunner forces gets infected by the logic plague, gets shut into a Cryptum by his wife, and is left there for a 100,000 years, just to dwell in is his own negativity? This score might be of help if you wish to get just the slightest feeling of what the Didact felt when he woke up. He was no longer the savior of the galaxy, but a monster, and although he may turn up in Halo 6 as a good guy, He is always ready to fight his ancient enemies: Humanity. This score also has the ancient feeling to it, like the main theme of Combat Evolved; brimming with greatness.

3. Halo: Reach: Lone Wolf
So this legit got us depressed. There is just so much loss in this piece it is not possible to explore with words. It looks at the tragedy of war, what a soldier might feel in a battle where all his friends are dead. It is capable of striking a chord in anyone. It does with its piano. It also deals with loneliness, and making a last stand. Listening to it just makes you so scared. Memories of all your life come to you, and what a soldier’s mind has comes to you.

2. Halo Reach: Winter Contingency
This OST probably just describes whole of Reach. It speaks out sacrifice, revenge, retaliation and most importantly gives us the fall of Reach in the most epic way we have ever seen. It has the combined feeling of loss, heroism, and so much more. The drums are probably the best part here, each time we heard we were awed. Noble Six easily comes to your mind and become alive when you hear it, and you just hear the whole of Reach, man. Reach is ancient, this OST has it. Reach is important, this OST has it. Reach is scary, this OST has that too. It is almost perfect.

Before we choose our number 1 OST, here are the ones that didn’t make it in the list, but are just good not to name.
Halo 4: Arrival
Halo Combat Evolved: Main Theme
 Halo 5: Blue Team
Halo 4: 117
Halo 4: Atonement
Halo 3: Never Forget
The list would all of the scores of all Halo games if we don’t stop at this point because truth be told, they are all just too good!

1.  Halo 2: Impart
The most legendary track is of course part of the original trilogy, and is perfectly in tune with the Halo aesthetic. It has all the essentials to be both of Halo, and be on the wall of Unforgettable soundtracks. It has the militaristic feel (which is missing in the recent games), the ancient forerunner vibe, the danger-lurking feel and more. Martin O’ Donnell shows us what being the best of the best sounds like.

As always, most of the OSTs in the whole franchise is great, these are just what The Scripture liked. Would you like to have a part 2? Which ones are your favorite? Do you think Locke is an actual character? Tell Us in the comments!
