What are the best tracks from Assassins Creed: Rogue?
Rogue follows the story of the Assassin-turned-Templar Shay Cormac between 1752 and 1760, during the Seven Years' War, and is the closing chapter in the Kenway saga. On this journey, Bulgarian composer Elitsa Alexandrova has done one of her most famous works in the 2014 video game. The DXR Script has curated the best ones from the soundtrack and here they are:
This track is like a manifestation showing everything that is to come. It denotes Shay's journey of going from the Creed to the Order and the epic journey that is his life. There are highs and there are lows, which are conveyed beautifully by the tempo of the track, and also showcases the elements of exploration in the both the frigid and the cool seas of the North Atlantic.
2. The Order And The Creed
This one might as very well denote the millennia old struggle between the Assassins and The Templars. A variant on Imminient Danger and Broken Bond, it plays as a fight theme, as well as when Shay is chasing Liam down. It is bold and swift, building off sword combat.
3. Morrigan
In 1752, while on a mission in the North Atlantic, Shay and Liam came across their comrade Louis-Joseph Gaultier, Chevalier de la Vérendrye, who was supposed to meet with smugglers carrying valuable cargo. When the smugglers were intercepted and captured by the Royal Navy, Shay infiltrated the smugglers' camp, eliminated the British guards, and commandeered their ship, a sloop-of-war named the Morrigan.
This little history is in fact the opening of the game, and after getting the ship, you just know good times are ahead. This is the theme you hear everytime the Morrigan goes to war, and is a perfect fit for naval combat. The high tones blend nicely into the atmosphere.
4. The Cutlass
Naval Fighting doesn't end until you have sunk the enemy ship or boarded it, and what better boarding music is there than this track? The track creates excitement and a rush as you see your crew pulling the enemy ship in, while you get on the Puckle gun, ready to take them out, shot by shot, and once the boys have pulled the ship in, you ready your blades.
5. The Hunter
This track is the epitome of the game's premise, Shay being a Hunter, and hunting down his former brotherhood. It has adventure, the urge to complete the mission, to get things right, at all costs. Le Chasseur, Kesegowaase, Hope, Adéwalé, Hope, Liam and the many assassin gang leaders- Shay hunted them down all. Shay became a feared figure among the assassins, and this track with its build up and vocals do a great job at making this track unique to Shay, and makes us wonder, Is this what he felt like? Hunting those who he considered Brothers?
As Shay says,
"Life's hardest choices are the ones that force you to question your own moral code."
6. Mysterious North
Suspense and Wonder make up this track, and you can almost feel the arctic winds rush by as it plays. The vocals have an ethereal beauty to them, and it links up with the Precursor history as well. What lies ahead? What may be discovered? The game's atmosphere would be incomplete without this.
7. Dangerous Waters
Eventually, after some time exploring the vast seas or the river valley, it happens: an enemy ship is sighted. Elitsa Alexandrova does a great job here, bringing a sense of dread and challenge, specially through the violin, and it all a track needs to be for a sea battle. It is intense, requiring your skills to navigate and fight. As you finish the enemy, you hear the uplifting notes, which just feels plain satisfying.
8. A Boy Becomes A Man
This is the indicative of Shay's evolution from Assassin to Templar, and realizing his past mistakes. Shay was originally a brash, immature, and insubordinate young man who often did not take his role as an Assassin seriously. Throughout his life, Shay carried a motto of "making his own luck", displaying his belief in personal independence and ingenuity, rather than fortune or others' actions to achieve success. After being in the Templar Order, Shay became cold and calculating to an extent, which would only heighten later on as the years passed.
However, Shay had a sense of honor, as he disliked having to kill individuals whom he deemed weak and defenseless, particularly Lawrence Washington or Samuel Smith, despite their allegiance to the Templar Order. Shay even reasoned with Haytham Kenway to spare the defenseless, beaten Achilles with this line:

9. Northern Lights
This aspect of the game is sometimes the most beautiful as this track plays, and combined with the ambiance of the sea and the ship lead to some breath taking and peaceful experiences.
10. I Am Shay Patrick Cormac
Shay's final form as a Templar is presented with this song, It is hopeful and powerful, and it is best combined with Shay's endgame speech, which mirrors the opening of the game:
"Uphold the principles of our Order, and all for that for which we stand. Never share our secrets nor divulge the true nature of our work. Do so until death – whatever the cost. This is my new creed. I am Shay Patrick Cormac. Templar of the Colonial... of the American Rite. I am an older man now, and perhaps wiser. A war and a revolution have ended, and another is about to begin. May the Father of Understanding guide us all."
