Disclaimer: The series is incredibly graphic, and is only suitable for mature audiences. Highly unadvised to watch if you are a minor.

And if you've already watched this series, you'll likely familiar that Netflix has confirmed that Season 2 is on its way. Have a refresher on why it was so great! Note that the list is in no particular order.

1. Shape-Shifters
Love, Death & Robots" Shape-Shifters (TV Episode 2019) - IMDb

Based on the book On The Use Of Shape-Shifters In Warfare by Marko Kloos, this story explores an alternate timeline where werewolves exist, but are looked down upon. It explores the story of two U.S. Marines in Afghanistan, and how the protagonist, Deckar, has his life changed when a sudden and unnatural enemy assault occurs.

The animation is very realistic, and the acting in the episode is commendable. It is also one of the best Interpretations of werewolves in recent history, from the transition to the action, all the while maintaining a sense of Realism. It rightly explores discrimination, and the small details of the world is where is this episode shines the most, and is definitely worth a watch.

Best quote:
"I may be an animal but I am done wearing your leash"

2. Ice Age

Love, Death & Robots (2019-)

Ice Age explores the course of human history, and even delves into Kierkegaard's philosophy....by showing how a couple arriving into their new home find an antique freezer, and inside is a full living world. Strange indeed. It shows Civilizations rising and falling rapidly, while the couple (performed brilliantly by Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Topher Grace) watch on in wonder.

There is just something captivating about this episode, and a charm that is not quite matched. The only episodes to have live action actors, it is great watch.

3. The Secret War

Love, Death & Robots "The Secret War" Review | Off the Beaten Path ...

Middle of nowhere in Siberia in the early 1940s, a war rages on between man and beasts from hell. Elite units of the Red Army fight monsters, while World War 2 captures attention of all on the planet. This episodes is one of the greatest to use realistic animations, and the the landscapes it captures are beautiful.

While it is one of the longer episodes, many fans have said they would love a full fledged movie just based off this episode. There is a bit of real life history entwined in the episode, which just helps the horror elements of the narrative.

"We must take this information to our superiors. They could end this plague."
"They would more likely end us for revealing their past mistakes. No. We have our mission, Comrade. Nothing more. Nothing less."

The Action scenes are fantastically done, and there is not one boring scene or character. It was the last episode in Season 1, which just makes the fans ever more excited. We can go on and on just about this one episode, so it is better to move on.

4. When The Yogurt Took Over

Love, Death & Robots — Netflix' Science Fiction Anthology in Review

Its right there in the title. Do we even need to explain how absurd the episode is? Yet, it somehow is one of the best ones.

When some Yogurt bacteria is experimented upon, it becomes sentient and slowly gains political power, until it becomes the President. The episode explores technology, and is one of the more fun ones, despite also showcasing how we are sometimes arrogant as a species,  Also one of the shortest episodes, it is a cool little experience.

5. Lucky 13

Lucky 13 | Love, Death & Robots Wiki | Fandom

Set in a future war on an unknown planet, between two unknown factions, this is the story of a pilot and her ship, which is so infamous, that this interaction takes place between two troopers:

"You know what ship we are riding?"
"Its a coffin with wings"
It is however, surprisingly, a heartwarming story, exploring the bond between the ship and its pilot. Samira Weily's performance as Lieutenant Colby is praise worthy. The visuals are amazing, the action scenes are good and is a fine watch.

5. Zima Blue

Love Death and Robots Concept Art by Robh Ruppel 17

This episode is beautiful. Not just visually with its superbly done artyle, but also because of the narrative, and specially the main character, The Great Artist Zima, and his obsession with the a specific color, specifically the color that becomes famous galaxy wide as "Zima Blue.". The story, which takes place in a distant future follows Zima telling his life story to a reporter. and it is at its core, quite philosophical, yet simple. Crazy, Captivating and a very original idea, it is must watch.

6. Beyond The Aquila Drift

Beyond the Aquila Rift wallpaper (With images) | Wallpaper, R ...

After awakening from a journey gone wrong, Thom, the ship's Captain is confused to what has happened- or where he even is. Things seem different and delusional. Based on the short story of the same name by Alastair Reynolds, this episode is exciting and will make you question your reality.
" But, hey, at least there's a friendly face here... "
Once again, the visuals are breathtaking, and the performance is one of the best in the series. The world itself in this universe is fascinating, and makes the viewer want to know more. Existential and note worthy scenes, this is great watch.

And as per tradition, of The DXR Script, we made sure to give you a track that, like this episode, is perhaps one of the best from the series:

Living In The Shadows by Matthew Perry Jones is a fantastic add to the episode, as it compliments Thom's thoughts and the things he is going through. It is errie and quite emo.

7. Three Robots

Love Death and Robots: Netflix Addresses Suspect Episode Order ...

A quite light-hearted and almost magical episode. Three robots, all different kinds, go on a city tour long after Humanity has vanished, and indulge in all sorts of activity and shenanigans. From Xbot 4000 to an evolved Baby Monitor, the robots are quite charming, and the episode is full of references to many parts of modern culture. Its great for laughs and although having deeper messages, it does not get away from the entertainment it provides.

Conclusion:

Love, Death & Robots Review: Netflix's Binge-Worthy Animated ...

Love, Death + Robots might be Netflix's strongest suites yet, and with quality such as these episodes we talked about above, it deserves it too. It has taken a unique approach from what Netflix usually puts out, with shows such as Black Mirror. Despite what the episodes seem superficially, they all have a deeper philosophical core, which is a breath of fresh air, and  a sign of genuine quality usually not found anywhere else. Winning 7 out of 8 nominations is no small feat either, and fans are understandably hyped for season 2.
